Features tell but benefits sell (Sales Tricks and Tips)

Features tell but benefits sell

My Name is Nikhil Bansal and today I welcome you on my blog and YouTube channel "learn with Nikhil".

Today i am going to show you how to flip your features into benefits with some examples. One of the great example is when apple launched their IPOD they didn't said that its one gig of storage for MP3 however they presented its benefit for the customer saying that it can store 1000 songs which can fit into your pocket.

This is really a great example of Flipping a feature into benefits because lot of users don't know what a gigabyte of storage is vs if someone says that it can store 1000 songs in your pocket this makes it clear for the user that he/she can store 1000 songs which can easily fit into their pocket. This is clearly showing the benefits to the user and here we can now convert features into benefits.
I remember those days when i use to have a mini disc player which could only have 20 or 30 songs or may be more like 50's but 1000 songs in your pocket is way too much higher than anything else out there. Even CD's use to store 20-50 songs only. So here we have clearly articulated benefits to the users that they can store up to 1000 songs in their pocket and listen music at their convenience. iPod was so successful those days simply because Apple clearly articulated benefits of the product and not just the features.

Now let's take the example of shampoo and you could simply say one of the feature that it contains a special formula panethol but in terms of benefit for the customer, it gets beautiful hair that get noticed in front of people. That's really a benefit and thats the result which a customer's wants. so if you focus and unlock to find out the real benefits for the customers then you would be able to sell your products easily.

Let's look at another example.

Here is a bag and one of the features is that it has a rain cover which you are already aware. so you will ask this question Why do I care if it has a rain cover?
Now the benefit for me is that it keeps your gear dry even in torrential rain.

So let's look at a another example.

The feature of a fitness program might be like it includes a meal plan and a shaker.

Well the benefit is really that I'll get to know exactly what to eat.

If you see in all these examples the benefit is really going to sell the product because it's far more compelling and this will help the consumer to understand the benefits they are going to get out of this project.

So focus on benefits of the projects and not just features.

I hope you are able to understand different between features and benefits and will be able to sell your products much easily.
